In June 2020, amidst Covid-19 lockdowns and Black Lives Matter protest, leaders from business, politics and activism joined a virtual meeting arranged by the Word Economic Forum (WEF) to discuss a new progressive paradigm for the global economy. Prodded into action by the fallout from the political reaction to Covid-19, which threatens to exacerbate existing inequalities in income and opportunity, the plan, which they named The Great Reset, sets out to replace traditional capitalism and propose that the world should now pursue regulation, wealth taxes and big government policies such as the Green New Deal. It follows on from Agenda 2030, the UN’s ambitious plan to eradicate poverty and move to what they call “world-wide sustainable development” by the end of this decade.
The background for these ambitious ideas is the belief that a technocracy is needed to fundamentally change the world and manage the wealth and resources on behalf of humankind, and that this is possible because we now live in a society where advances in technology afford leaders the ability to direct action on a global scale and create what they call a “stakeholder economy”, their word for an economic system that is based on government control rather than private property.
The WEF have long had a desire for a revolution from the top and Covid-19 is the opportunity they have been waiting for, because the unprecedented interference by governments into the professional and private lives of citizens – with almost identical action taken by governments across the world – provides a blueprint for globally concerted efforts to change society under government direction. “We have a golden opportunity to seize something good from this crisis – its unprecedented shockwaves may well make people more receptive to big visions of change,” said Prince Charles, the climate change crusading British crown prince, when he spoke at the meeting. “It is an opportunity we have never had before and may never have again.” This chilling aspiration is exactly why the worst legacy of the current crisis, worse than the human cost and the enormous financial debt, will be the normalisation of draconian government action such as lockdown to achieve the elites’ desired societal outcomes.
Climate change plays a central role in The Great Reset because the lockdown crisis, for all its promise of political opportunity to make radical change, is bound to be temporary. The climate, however, is a cause with more longevity, and post-Covid this is the cornerstone on which popular support for the plans is to be built. “Follow the science,” is the rallying cry of the authoritarian global technocracy, as they prepare to massively increase societal controls under the banner of “social justice.”
The technocratic core of The Great Reset is also evident in the prescription for use of digital technology in the coming regulation of individual conduct. We have seen the beginnings of this symbiosis between governments and the digital industry with the “track & trace” programs designed to fight Covid-19, and in the future it is not farfetched to envision a global roll-out of social credit systems such as the one pioneered by China: the individual reduced to points on a score card of desired behaviours, as the elites breed a new obedient citizenry in the vein of transhumanism, the philosophical movement that advocates transformation of the human condition through technology.
The reforms are poised to affect us in all areas of life: finance, employment, medicine, food, housing, education. The starting point will be the massive government programmes that will be enacted in response to the devastation wrecked by lockdown, both neo-Keynesian fiscal policies and an extension of the last decade’s ultra-loose monetary policies, as well as social programmes to bring about the desired societal change, all accompanied by redistributive taxation. In almost too fortunate a coincidence, 2020 has also offered up a massive popular movement for “racial justice” in the form of the Black Lives Matter protest, a cause that fits perfectly with the WEF’s social justice goals.
The WEF’s showdown with capitalism is the greatest globally coordinated movement for change the world has ever seen, but it is all happening almost covertly, as if the conspirators know the plans’ globalist elitism is a hard sell even if the vision of government planned social justice may not be. Perhaps the most obvious sign of the worldwide elitist cabal being coordinated in their vision is the use of the slogan “Build Back Better”, first used by a 2016 UN programme but in 2020 the slogan of both Joe Biden’s US presidential campaign and the UK Conservatives, as well as a host of other political organisations and initiatives. Look out for the word “Reset” as well, in campaigns from both multinational corporations, political parties and special interest groups.
The Great Reset is a terrifying prospect for anyone who believes in individual agency and free markets. Words like authoritarian and dystopian are easy to sling around in these lockdown days, but The Great Reset’s plans for technocratic social engineering truly fit that description. Yes, our current system of capitalism is flawed, infected with cronyism, over-regulated and over-taxed, but the problems we have are created by the very governments who now bid for a massive expansion of their powers. If the elites are successful in this sinister project the world will be a very dark place for decades, perhaps centuries, to come.
